I use numerous therapeutic techniques to treat my clients, because it really depends on each client’s needs which ones are appropriate. In our initial consultation together we would work out what it is you want to achieve, and your personal preferences for therapy. Because everyone is unique you would have a tailor-made treatment suited exactly to you.
Here are the main techniques I use.
In a state of hypnosis you can relax, switch off thoughts and noise, and connect with your subconscious mind. This allows me to make positive suggestions to help you change limiting beliefs, emotions and behaviours. I can also teach you self-hypnosis to do in your own time as this will boost the effect of your therapy sessions. A typical hypnotherapy session lasts 1 hour.
Parks Inner Child Therapy (PICT)
Developed by Penny Parks, Parks Inner Child Therapy (PICT) is what I use for people who have done all their verbal unloading already, via counselling, and are now ready for positive ‘change work.’ It is the most powerful therapy I have ever encountered. I use it to give full resolution to people suffering from stress, anxiety, trauma, depression, and abuse. Working with me, you experience how PICT allows us to target and remove the underlying cause of the problem, not just the surface symptoms. Consequently, I treat many clients who seek to move beyond coping, or surviving the day-to-day, to a place of natural, permanent resolution. A PICT session lasts 2 hours and you’d need to commit to at least 10 sessions for it to prove effective, however I can assure you, it can be truly effective. If you feel like you have been ‘wandering the wilderness’ seeking a permanent fix, then this is for you.
Not as scripted or as structured as PICT, psychotherapy helps people who are experiencing problematic behaviours or feelings in adult life for which they cannot see an immediate cause. Perhaps the problem feels too ingrained or they say that they are ‘hard-wired’ that way. I use many different techniques within the field of psychotherapy, such as Transactional Analysis, but often the treatment involves a form of visualisation exercise to regress to an earlier time in life, namely childhood, to find the cause and transform the limiting beliefs held and the emotions felt. I find that deep-rooted problems such as anxiety, low self-esteem, depression and trauma can be resolved with the help of psychotherapy.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
Co-developed by Dr. Richard Bandler, NLP helps to improve many issues, in combination with your commitment. These include: sports or public speaking performance; confidence; phobias; weight loss; addictions; unwanted behaviours or habits; and pain management.
It works on the basis that it’s the way we process reality that gives it a meaning; not the reality itself. So it’s what happens on our inside, not the outside, that matters. We assess our experiences as good or bad, attach beliefs to them, and move on. NLP counters this by helping you to change the way you experience ‘negative’ reality.
During an NLP session we don’t need to use hypnosis, we would use a carefully constructed treatment to ensure that whatever it is that’s upsetting you, you’ll experience it differently in future. NLP is a powerful fixing therapy in itself but can be used in conjunction with hypnosis, if necessary.
Parts therapy is based on the concept that our personality is composed of a number of various parts. Each part has a job to do, with a positive intention for doing so. So, for example, you might say that you want to stop smoking, but a ‘part’ of you is still choosing to smoke as it believes it helps you to relax.
Parts therapy is the process of calling out and speaking directly with the part, and this normally involves mediation between two primary parts in conflict. It is particularly useful for unwanted habits or behaviour.
